To work out a tip by hand, multiply the bill by the tip percentage and divide by 100.
Example: Bill = $120.80, Tip = 15 %, 4 people
Tip amount = 120.80 ร 0.15 = $18.12
Total = 120.80 + 18.12 = $138.92
Per person = 138.92 รท 4 = $34.73
A useful mental shortcut: move the decimal point one place left to get 10 %, then double it for 20 %, or add half again for 15 %.

A standard tip in the US and Canada is 15โ20 % of the pre-tax bill. For great service, 20โ25 % is common. In many other countries, 10 % or simply rounding up is the norm.
Most people tip on the pre-tax subtotal, but tipping on the final total is also acceptable and simplifies the calculation.
20 % of $50 is $10, making your total $60. If you split it between 2 people, each person pays $30.
It depends on personal preference and local custom. Many people tip on the original bill before any coupons or discounts are applied, as the server's effort was the same.
This calculator splits the total evenly. For uneven splits, calculate each person's share of the bill separately and apply the same tip percentage to each share.
If a service charge is already on the bill, an additional tip is optional. Check whether the charge goes directly to the staff; in some countries it goes to the business owner instead.
